Twice named all-conference and all-district as a defensive back. Captain of the 1972 team that defeated Emporia State in the Boot Hill Bowl. Starter on the team that set an Iowa Conference record for fewest yards allowed per game, a record that still stands. The Statesmen were 28-10 during his career.
