
Numerous PRs Recorded as William Penn Runs at MMU Stampede
Cedar Rapids--D'Artagnon Beaver (Sr., Rockford, Ill., Human Services) had the best performance of his life as he headed the Statesmen men's cross country team at the Mount Mercy Seminole Valley Stampede Saturday.
William Penn placed seventh out of 19 programs with 191 points, while Aquinas (Mich.) won the team crown with 45 points.
Isaac Sytsma of Saint Xavier (Ill.) was the best runner in the 212-person field, completing the 8K race in a time of 24:37.6.
Beaver was just two spots back of the winner, finishing third overall in 24:58.7, setting a personal best in the process. His time is also the third-fastest in school history, trailing on Jamal Boma's 24:51 and 24:54 marks from 2016.
Brandon Williams (Sr., Fountain, Colo., Engineering Technology) was just eight seconds off his own PR, taking 12th at the competition at 25:18.3. His finish is now the sixth-fastest all-time at WPU.
Andrew Miller (So., Le Claire, Iowa, Exercise Science) ended up 48th overall at 26:17.4, while Ruben Perez-Rodriguez (Sr., San Antonio, Texas, Wellness and Recreation) crossed the line in 64th at 26:40.7.
Ethan Varvelo (Sr., Channelview, Texas, Engineering Technology) concluded the navy and gold varsity scoring in 90th at 27:12.4.
Carson Springer (So., Grimes, Iowa, Business Management) led the rest of William Penn's harriers in 138th place at 28:52.7.
For Miller, Perez-Rodriguez, Varvelo, and Springer, they all joined Beaver by setting new PRs as well.
Next Up: William Penn takes a few weeks off before traveling to Ashland, Neb. on Saturday, October 26 to compete in the Flaming Tiger NAIA Classic.
