Statesmen of the Week: Jawuan Brown and Joanna Vanderwood

Oskaloosa--Men's basketball player Jawuan Brown (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y., Business Management) and women's wrestler Joanna Vanderwood (Sr., Graham, Wash., Nursing) have been named Statesmen of the Week for January 6-12, a laurel presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Brown proved to be a standout player for the Statesmen last week, delivering impactful performances in both matchups. Against Grand View last Thursday, he recorded 10 points, five rebounds, and four blocks.  He also stepped up against Central Methodist last Saturday, leading all scorers with an impressive 25 points, while shooting 70.6% from the field. Brown also added seven rebounds to his stat line.

Vanderwood claimed four wins at the NWCA National Duals last Friday and Saturday. In the team's commanding 35-12 victory over Saint Mary (Kan.), she wasted no time, pinning her opponent in just 27 seconds. Vanderwood also added hard-fought points with wins by decision over wrestlers from Providence (Mont.) and Baker, while closing out the event with a forfeit victory over Hastings.
