Statesmen of the Week: Branson Bottorff and Jaida Smith

Oskaloosa--Men's wrestler Branson Bottorff (Sr., Mackinaw, Ill., Industrial Technology) and women's basketball player Jaida Smith (Sr., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Business Management) have been named Statesmen of the Week for February 17-23, an honor presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Bottorff secured his second national tournament berth with a stellar performance at 184 pounds, finishing fifth at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship last Friday and Saturday. In the final bout for the weight class, he earned a hard-fought 4-1 victory over KJ Fry of Graceland. The senior's 4-2 record included a major decision and a fall.

Smith racked up 39 points over three games. In the thrilling 72-68 win over Clarke last Monday, she led the team with 22 points, proving pivotal in the close victory. Smith continued her strong play against Grand View on Wednesday, scoring 11 points, and added six more in a Saturday matchup against Baker. The senior also contributed with 17 rebounds and 11 steals throughout the week.
