
Beaver, Ogunsanya Secure Player of the Month Laurels
Oskaloosa--The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced its February Players of the Month.
Men's track and field athlete D'Artagnon Beaver (Sr., Rockford, Ill., Human Services) was named the male recipient, while women's wrestler Christianah Ogunsanya (Fr., Akure, Nigeria, Kinesiology) earned the female honor. Beaver garnered his third career award, while Ogunsanya is a first-time recipient.
Competing in a variety of events, Beaver was a three-time Heart of America Athletic Conference champion, winning the 3,000-meter run race in 8:43.36, while also being a part of 4x800-meter relay (7:52.17) and distance medley relay (10:26.68) titles. He also won the 3,000 and the DMR competitions at separate meets, while breaking the one-mile run (4:13.99) during the month. He competed at NAIA Indoor Nationals as well in both the DMR and the one-mile run, placing 17th and 18th, respectively.
Ogunsanya dominated her opponents during February en route to both a Heart title and an NAIA crown. She was 19-0 with 16 technical falls and one fall. At the Heart Championship, where she was named Co-Tournament Outstanding Wrestler, the freshman outscored her foes 34-1. As part of her run to the national title, she posted a 41-4 scoring edge in her four victories.
