West, Lange Win Player of the Month Awards
Oskaloosa--The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced its May Players of the Month.
Men's track and field athlete Xzavion West (Jr., Guthrie, Ky., Undecided) was named the male recipient, while women's golfer Olivia Lange (Sr., Buckeburg, Germany, Business Management) earned the female honor. This marks West's second career Player of the Month award--both earned this year--while Lange collects the honor for the fifth time in her career, including three this season.
West delivered a dominant performance in May, excelling in the throwing events to help lead the Statesmen to a fourth-place team finish at the Heart of America Outdoor Championships. He claimed first place in the hammer throw (193-9), third in the discus (155-0), and sixth in the shot put (49-3). His success continued on the national stage, where he earned third place in the hammer throw at the NAIA Outdoor National Championship with an impressive school-recordtoss of 201-6. Throughout the month, West shattered the school's hammer throw record three times.
On the course, Lange led the women's golf team at the NAIA Championship. While WPU missed making the 15-team cut, Lange advanced individually to the final 36 holes. She opened the championship with a solid 78, followed by a stellar 75--a round that included a hole-in-one on the 150-yard fourth hole. She went on to post rounds of 79 and 82 in the smaller field, highlighted by two birdies and two eagles.
