Statesmen of the Week: Christian Benning and Maju Vieira

Oskaloosa--Football player Christian Benning (Fr., Streator, Ill., Business Management) and women's volleyball player Maju Vieira (Jr., Rio do Janeiro, Brazil, Business Management) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of September 1-7, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Benning had a strong performance last Saturday against Central Methodist, completing 19 of his 30 passes for 285 yards.  He connected with nine different receivers for three touchdowns. Benning also gained 56 yards on the ground over six runs. The freshman has helped lead the Statesmen to their first 2-0 start since 2015.

Vieira recorded a total of 48 kills last week with her top outing of 17 kills coming against Doane.  Overall, the junior managed to attack at a .246 clip in addition to posting 30 digs.
