Rufus Williams is in his third season as Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Co-Recruiting Coordinator.

Williams returned to his alma mater after spending three years as an assistant at Rockford University (Ill.).  While at Rockford, he helped the program to a 35-28 record and a trip to the conference championship game in 2021.

Beyond RU basketball, Williams spent the summers of 2019-2022 serving as the head coach of the Midwest Wildcats 17U and 13U AAU programs.  With the Wildcats, he was also a skills development coach, recruiting coordinator, and skills camp coordinator.

Williams also had a short stint at Presentation College (S.D.).

Williams got his first coaching job at WPU when he became the JV Coach for the 2017-2018 season, and was the Varsity Reserve Coach for the 2018-2019 season while helping coach the Varsity team.

A 2017 graduate of William Penn with a degree in Kinesiology, Williams also earned his Master’s of Business Leadership degree at WPU in 2019.

In his original coaching stint at WPU during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns, he helped the Statesmen to a 52-17 record and two trips to NAIA Nationals.

As a player at William Penn, Williams was a part of two NAIA Nationals squads that owned an 82-23 record.  A strong student-athlete, he was thrice named to the Dean’s List and twice honored as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
