Addison, Ill.--The Statesmen men's bowling team narrowly missed a top-20 finish as it knocked off the holiday break rust at the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic last Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn finished 21st out of 71 teams at the Tier 1 event with 9,005 pins.  The event consisted of five regular games and 20 Baker rounds.  SCAD Savannah (Ga.) won the team crown with 9,823 pins.

Zakarey Geer of Wisconsin-Whitewater guided the 469 bowlers in the competition with 1,214 pins (242.8 average).

Jayson Miner (Sr., Silvis, Ill., Business Management) led the navy and gold with a 216.2 average, headlined by four games in the 200s (high of 245).  Conor Fetherston (Fr., Dublin, Ireland) was higher up in the standings as well with a 211.8 clip, including also managing four games in the 200s.

Bryce Keykal (So., Princeton, Minn., Education) also started all five rounds and averaged 188.6 pins.

The duo of Coleton Jacobson (Jr., West Jordan, Utah, Exercise Science), at 189.0, and Nate Hansen (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska, Industrial Technology), at 181.3, both played in three rounds, while Jake Cook (Sr., Keokuk, Iowa, Physical Education) (201.0) and Jared Smith (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, General Accounting) (196.5) each competed twice.

"Overall, this was a good weekend for us," Head Coach Cameron Foster said.  "We continue to grow as a team and had our best overall performance in Baker play.  We look forward to building on that momentum."

Next Up: William Penn travels to Dubuque Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Clarke Invitational.
