William Penn in Top Half at Coe Invite
Cedar Rapids--The Statesmen men's bowling team returned to action last Saturday and Sunday with a top-half finish at the Coe Invitational.
WPU was ninth out of 19 teams with 7,563 pins in five regular games and 16 Baker games. Mount Mercy led qualifying with 8,782 pins, just four ahead of St. Ambrose. St. Ambrose, however, won the four-team match play competition, ousting Baker in the final.
Brandon Bohn of Mount Mercy was the best roller out of the 179 competitors in the field with a 240.6 average (1,203 pins).
Jayson Miner (Sr., Silvis, Ill., Business Management) paced the navy and gold efforts with a 198.0 average, while Jared Smith (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, General Accounting), at 190.8, and Bryce Keykal (So., Princeton, Minn., Education), at 182.8, also started all five rounds.
Conor Fetherston (Fr., Dublin, Ireland) averaged 186.5 pins in four games, while Nate Hansen (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska, Industrial Technology) (178.0) and Kody Sapp (Jr., Donnelson, Iowa, Sociology) (177.0) both started in two rounds.
Jake Cook (Sr., Keokuk, Iowa, Physical Education), with a 183, and Coleton Jacobson (Jr., West Jordan, Utah, Exercise Science), with a 158, competed in one game each as well.
WPU's reserve team was also on the lanes and the Statesmen placed fourth out of 10 teams in the JV standings with 7,722 pins. Spencer Fleming (So., Greensboro, N.C., Business Management) headlined the squad with a 196.4 average.
Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. on February 18-19 to compete in the Hoosier Classic.
