WPU Captures Another First-Place Finish
Indianola--The William Penn men's golf team took home its second-straight title of the year, winning the Simpson Invitational Wednesday.
The team overall shot an 11-over-par 295, finishing 10 strokes better than runner-up Simpson. The Indianola Country Club course is a par-71 course that covers 6,344 yards.
Weather played a factor as competition was stopped for 45 minutes due to lightning. Once it resumed, the Statesmen, led by Spencer Tucker (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sports Management), took care of business. Tucker picked up his second win in as many events this year, shooting even-par 71. The senior has scored under par in all three of his rounds this fall.
Austin Hafner (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sports Management) followed suit with his second runner-up placing in a row by finishing at par 72.
Bailey Johnston (So., Hastings, Minn., Business Management) and Jonathan Jarvis (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Business Management) both tied for fifth place with identical scores of 76, while Cameron Johnson (Sr., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Business Management) tied for 18th by carding a 79.
Danny McQuade (Jr., Tucson, Ariz., Political Science) topped William Penn's individual golfers with an 80.
Next up: The Statesmen will be in action next Monday and Tuesday as they travel to Kendallville, Ind. to play in the Saint Francis Invitational.
