William Penn Places Seventh in Fall Finale

Moravia--The Statesmen men's golf team produced a pair of respectable scores as it concluded its fall campaign at the Heart Preview Monday and Tuesday.

WPU finished seventh out of 10 teams with a two-round score of 614 (309-305) at The Preserve Golf Course--a par-72 layout.  MidAmerica Nazarene won the team title at 575 (294-281).

The Preserve will serve as the site of next spring's Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship, which is the qualifying tournament for the NAIA National Championship.

Jack Winkel of Grand View took the medalist honor (out of 55 players) by shooting 138 (72-66).

The Statesmen linksters found themselves in the middle of the standings, paced by Trace White (Sr., Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Physical Education (K-12)) who tied for 20th at 151 (76-75).  The senior's outing included seven birdies.

Andon Herrera (Fr., Katy, Texas, Business Management) was close behind his teammate at 152 (76-76) to tie for 23rd.  The freshman, who recorded 24 pars, tied for fourth in the field in par-four scoring.

Jonathan Jarvis (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Business Management) was next, tying for 31st at 155 (78-77), while Luke Galeazzi (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) tied for 34th at 156 (79-77).  Galeazzi, like Herrera, had 24 pars over the span of the two days at The Preserve.

Gabe Kramer (Fr., Grimes, Iowa, Computer Science) rounded out the lineup at 164 (86-78) to tie for 44th.

Individually, Nicholas Moore (Fr., Hurst, Texas, Business Management) also tied for 44th at 164 (85-79).

"This is a whole different team compared to last year, so I was excited to line them up against our conference opponents," Head Coach Elise Warne said.  "We made a lot of birdies, which is a great indication we can keep up with the best teams.  As a team, we fell away on some specific holes and opportunities to score, but it was a good week for our guys and I know they are not satisfied with their performances.  I know our goals are high and we will be hungry to compete in the spring."
