William Penn Continues Spring Campaign at CMU Invite
Boonville, Mo.--The Statesmen men's golf team got back on the links Monday and Tuesday as it competed at the Central Methodist Invitational.
WPU placed seventh out of 11 teams with a two-round score of 602 (301-301) at the par-71 Hail Ridge Golf Course. Missouri Valley topped the field at 565 (273-292), while Chad Coburn of MVC won the individual medalist honor at six-under 136 (66-70).
Luke Galeazzi (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) was his squad's best golfer, tying for 13th out of 64 individuals. He opened with a one-under 70 and then followed that up with a 75 to finish at 145.
Tyler Pedretti (Fr., Upland, Calif., Business Management) was next at 149 (73-76) to tie for 22nd, while the duo of Francois Assaud (Sr., Montelimar, France, Sports Management) and Alvaro Rodriguez (Fr., Gijon, Spain, Business Management) had identical tournaments. Both linksters shot 79 on Monday and 75 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 37th at 154.
Will Schwartz (So., Florissant, Mo., Biology) wrapped up William Penn's scoring as he tied for 52nd at 165 (79-86).
"Conditions were very good, and the course was very scoreable on the first day, so I thought we let an opportunity get away," Head Coach Darin Fisher said. "Even though our 301 team total was our lowest of the spring, I thought we had a low-290s round at our fingertips. We did have two guys play very well in Luke Galeazzi and Tyler Pedretti. I was pleased with the way those two competed. Our other three guys unfortunately struggled a bit on a day when scores were low."
"We played collectively much better on the second day in matching our first day's score," Fisher added. "We were the only team in the field to not shoot higher in the second round, so I was very pleased with our toughness. We are working hard on raising our program expectations and how we carry ourselves. I am pleased so far with our progression."
Next Up: William Penn travels to London, Ky. next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Cumberlands Invitational. Play will be contested at The Oaks of London Golf Course.
