Statesmen Swing Sticks at Cumberlands Invitational

London, Ky.--The William Penn men's golf team hit the road for the Bluegrass State Monday and Tuesday as it battled at the Cumberlands Patriot Invitational.

WPU finished ninth out of nine teams with a three-round score of 977 (323-328-326) at the par-72 Crooked Creek Golf Course.  No. 3 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) topped the standings at 881 (291-288-302).

Cayden Chambers of Bethel (Tenn.) (72-76-68) and Toby White of Lindsey Wilson (70-74-72) tied for first at 216 in the 54-player field.

Francois Assaud (Sr., Montelimar, France, Sports Management) led William Penn's scorers, tying for 22nd at 231 (77-76-78).

Luke Galeazzi (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) was next at 240 (80-78-82) to tie for 36th, while Tyler Pedretti (Fr., Upland, Calif., Business Management) was next at 149 (73-76), tying for 42nd at 251 (81-86-84).

Kinnick Pritchard (Fr., Newton, Iowa) concluded his tournament experience in a tie for 45th at 255 (85-88-82), while Clay Morse (So., Sigourney, Iowa, Business Management) was 53rd at 281 (96-88-97).

Competing as an individual, Nicholas Moore (So., Hurst, Texas, Business Management) placed 42nd at 254 (89-84-81).

"We battled some very difficult conditions this week on a difficult course," Head Coach Darin Fisher said.  "We started strong, but could not keep it going.  We knew we had opportunities to bounce back on the second day, but some early struggles set us back and we could not get any traction."

"I feel like physically we have the tools to be successful, but we need to be more mentally tough," Fisher added.  "I need to do a better job helping our players with that, as well as motivating them.  We will no doubt bounce back with a great week of practice.  We look forward to the event in Kansas next week."

Next Up: William Penn travels to Salina, Kan. next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Bethany Classic.  Play will be contested at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
