William Penn Sixth in Regular Season Finale

Newton, Kan.--The Statesmen men's golf team put a bow on its regular season Monday and Tuesday as it battled at the Bethany Classic.

WPU finished sixth out of nine teams with a three-round score of 940 (315-300-325) at the par-72 Sand Creek Station Golf Course.  Iowa Western CC bested the field at 880 (292-296-292).

Ryan Lingelbach of IWCC earned the individual crown with a score of one-under-par 215 (75-74-76).

Luke Galeazzi (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) led the navy and gold in 18th place, taking a rollercoaster ride to shoot 227 (75-69-83), while Francois Assaud (Sr., Montelimar, France, Sports Management) was right behind him in a similar up-and-down tourney experience at 233 (81-71-81) to finish 20th overall.

Tyler Pedretti (Fr., Upland, Calif., Business Management) was next in a tie for 28th at 237 (80-79-78).  Nicholas Moore (So., Hurst, Texas, Business Management), who tied for 38th at 243 (79-81-83), and Will Schwartz (So., Florissant, Mo., Biology), who tied for 47th at 254 (83-86-85), also competed for the varsity.

Timothy Wacker (Fr., Gilbert, Ariz., Psychology) hit the links as an individual and performed admirably at 236 (77-81-78) to tie for 26th.

"We rebounded very well in the second round after a mediocre first 18 holes," Head Coach Darin Fisher said.  "Francois Assaud's second round nearly eclipsed our season best, which is impressive since it came on such a difficult course.  We unfortunately struggled a bit on the second day as the course really showed its teeth."

"We are still shuffling team members around to get the right five for the conference tournament," Fisher added.  "We need to limit mistakes and play very well to have a good showing next week."

Next Up: William Penn travels to Overland Park, Kan. next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship.  Play will be contested at Nicklaus Golf Club.
