
Near Sweep for Statesmen in All-Heart Awards
Oskaloosa--A total of 10 Statesmen, paced by numerous top award winners, were recognized as the 2025 all-Heart of America Athletic Conference men's lacrosse teams were announced Friday.
Breck Putzier (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn., Exercise Science) guided William Penn as he was named the league's Player of the Year, while Nate Blasingame (Sr., Portland, Ore., Business Management), Kenny Bohney (Jr., Moorhead, Minn., Exercise Science), Blake Cyboron (Jr., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Business Management), and Max Standage (Sr., Gilbert, Ariz., Business Management) joined him on the 13-member first team.
The quintet of Garrett Katrana (Fr., Parker, Colo., Industrial Technology), Everett Breniser (Fr., Centennial, Colo., Entrepreneurship), Nate Levy (Fr., Lynwood, Wash., Biology), Drew Swanson (Fr., West Des Moines, Iowa, Industrial Technology), and Bryce Campbell (Jr., Boise, Idaho, Exercise Science) all collected second-team recognition (13 individuals on the second team).
The 10 honorees breaks last year's record of nine. Putzier is included on an all-conference team for the fourth time in his career, while Bohney and Standage are now both two-time honorees. Blasingame, Cyboron, Katrana, Breniser, Levy, Swanson, and Campbell are all first-time winners.
Putzier, who is the POY for the third time (three for WPU all-time), also shared the Offensive POY award with Vinny DeMarco of William Woods. Putzier is a three-time Heart Offensive Player of the Year award recipient as well.
Standage was one of the top players on the other end of the field, sharing the Defensive Player of the Year laurel with Eli Hahn of St. Ambrose. It marks the first time the Statesmen have collected the DPOY award.
Katrana topped all first-year players as he took home the title of Heart Freshman of the Year. It is the third time William Penn has earned that accolade.
Head Coach Luke Christiansen was also chosen as Heart Coach of the Year, claiming his first ever such title.
The crew helped William Penn (11-3, 9-0 Heart) to the Heart regular season crown and a trip to the Heart Finals Saturday against St. Ambrose.
Putzier, an attacker, enters the championship game with team highs in goals (57), assists (55), and points (112). He leads the league in assists and points, while being third in goals. He has scored at least one goal and one assist in every game this season with a high of 15 points against Midland on March 26.
In addition to his offense, the senior also has 49 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers, while winning five faceoffs.
Midfielder Blasingame has accounted for 59 points with 31 goals and 28 assists, while also tallying 57 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.
The winner of 36 faceoffs (.643 win percentage), the senior has scored at least one point in every game with a high of 10 versus Missouri Valley on April 1.
Fellow midfielder Bohney, who was also a first-teamer in 2024, owns 40 goals with 22 assists for 62 points. Additionally, he has tallied 57 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
He has a high point total of 12 against Clarke on March 17.
Cyboron, selected as a short stick defensive midfielder, has managed two goals and one assist for three points, while recording six ground balls and three caused turnovers. His leadership on the backline has helped WPU allow just 65 goals (4.64 per game) this year. The Statesmen have posted one shutout and have limited four opponents to five goals of less.
Selected as a defender, Standage has been a force in all aspects of the game, scoring three goals with seven assists for 10 points. More impressively, however, he leads the navy and gold in ground balls (126) and caused turnovers (19).
A first-team pick last season, Standage managed a 2025-best 16 ground balls against Benedictine on April 23.
Katrana has given WPU a potent 1-2 punch at attacker, having thus far scored 45 goals and 39 assists for 84 points. He has also posted 28 ground balls with five caused turnovers.
His 10-point effort against Columbia on April 4 is a season best. Matching Putzier, the freshman has scored at least one goal and one assist in every contest in 2025.
Midfielder Breniser has accumulated 44 points so far this spring with 27 goals and 17 assists. He also has 18 ground balls and two caused turnovers on his resume.
The freshman has scored a season-best eight points twice.
Levy has served well as a short stick defensive midfielder, tallying eight points on five goals and three assists. His stat sheet also includes 24 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
Swanson's work as a long stick midfielder has netted one assist for one point along with 22 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.
Campbell has been invaluable as the squad's top faceoff specialist, going 153-for-210 for a .729 win clip. He has also managed two goals and one assist for three points, while picking up 68 ground balls and causing one turnover.
Campbell won a season-high 18 faceoffs against Ottawa on March 7, while his season-best .923 win mark (12-for-13) came against Midland on March 26.
Ray Lingard of Missouri Baptist was selected as Heart Newcomer of the Year, while Joseph Ceto of William Woods was tabbed as Assistant Coach of the Year.
