Oskaloosa--The Statesmen men's soccer team took a 1-0 triumph after a grueling battle against Baker in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Saturday.
#8 WPU (7-0-1, 1-0-0) dominated the offensive effort by outshooting the Baker (5-2-0, 0-1-0) 14-3 but struggled to find the back of the net.
William Penn finally broke through in the 22nd minute when Hugo Cornish (So., Sydney, Australia, Business Management) delivered a corner kick that found Connor O'Reilly (Sr., Letterkenny, Ireland, General Accounting), who headed the ball into the path of Leighton Jameson (Jr., Lisburn, Northern Ireland, Psychology). Jameson flicked it past the goalkeeper to score the game's lone goal.

John-Joe Mullane (Jr., Kent, England) and Cornish led the offense with four shots, while O'Reilly and Matias Meijede (Grad., Brunete, Spain, Master's of Organizational Leadership) managed two shots each. Albert Feixas (Fr., Santa Coloma de Farners, Spain, Exercise Science) and Jameson added to William Penn's shot tally with one apiece.
Sean Bohan (Sr., Dublin, Ireland, Business Management) added to his perfect record (now 3-0), recording his third-straight shutout in as many games played.
"We are happy to get the first conference game jitters out of the way," said Head Coach Simon Brown. "We created enough chances to possibly add a couple more goals and we will look to improve on that for Tuesday. We look forward to hosting another conference game against undefeated Clarke."
