Fayette, Mo.—The Statesmen men's soccer team dropped #22 Central Methodist in a 2-0 victory in a Heart of America Athletic Conference contest Saturday.
WPU rebounded with a shutout victory after suffering their first shutout loss of the season to Park last Saturday.
8 William Penn (13-2-1, 7-2 Heart) dominated the offensive attack over Central Methodist (9-3-3, 3-3-2 Heart) with a 17-8 shot surplus.
Leighton Jameson (Jr., Lisburn, Northern Ireland, Psychology) opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal at the 3:31 mark.
The navy and gold continued to cling to that one-goal advantage for the next 70-plus minutes, finally doubling their edge in the 80th minute. John-Joe Mullane (Jr., Kent, England, Sports Management) started the scoring sequence by launching a throw into the box. Matias Meijede (Grad., Brunete, Spain, Master's of Organizational Leadership) then headed the ball backwards right in front of the goal and Miguel Menendez (So., Oviedo, Spain, Wellness and Recreation) headed it into the back of the net for WPU's insurance score.
Menendez led the William Penn's shot tally with six attempts, while Connor O'Reilly (Sr., Letterkenny, Ireland, General Accounting) added four tallies. Mullane, Hugo Cornish (So., Sydney, Australia, Business Management),and Albert Feixas (So., Santa Coloma de Farners, Spain, Exercise Science) posted two shots apiece.
