Feixas Scores Equalizer as William Penn Draws with Wildcats

Canton, Mo.--The No. 5 William Penn men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Culver-Stockton in its Heart of America Athletic Conference opener Saturday.

The Statesmen (2-1-2, 0-0-1 Heart) held a narrow 18-13 edge in total shots, while the Wildcats (1-1-3, 0-0-1 Heart) owned an 8-7 advantage in attempts on frame.

William Penn dictated the pace early, outshooting C-SC 11-3 in a scoreless first half.

Both teams found the net from the penalty spot after halftime. Culver-Stockton struck first in the 49th minute, but Albert Feixas (So., Santa Coloma de Farners, Spain, Exercise Science) answered less than two minutes later with the equalizer at the 50:46 mark.

Despite several chances down the stretch, neither side managed to break through as the Wildcats held a 10-7 second-half shot margin.

Feixas led the Statesmen with four shots, while John-Joe Mullane (Sr., Kent, England, Sports Management) and Caleb Wright (Fr., Hitchin, England, Sports Management) chipped in three apiece.

Freshman goalkeeper Lewis McNab (Weymouth, England, Business Management) made his William Penn debut, earning the start and recording seven saves.

"For us, it was a disappointing performance. We had seven or eight clear chances, and we didn't make them count. That's something that will come back to bite us. It wasn't how we wanted to start conference play," said Head Coach Joe Minton. "We'll take a point because that's what our performance earned."

Looking to the next context, Minton continued, "All eyes on Clarke. A very hard place to go. We'll try to adjust ourselves and get ready for that game."
