
Track and Field Open Up Outdoor Season at Viking Relays
Des Moines—The Statemen track and field teams opened up their outdoor season by traveling to Grand View Saturday afternoon where they faced off against several Heart of America Athletic Conference opponents.
Getting things started off, Alexandra Rose (Jr., Quincy, Ill., Exercise Science) took home second in the 100-meter relay with a time of 12.69 seconds, while teammate Allison Read (Fr., Austin, Texas) came in at fifth (13.11).
In the 200-meter race, Tabitha Rogers (So., Venice, Calif.) finished in second place (27.36), as Abigaille Batu-Tiako (Jr., Plattsburgh, N.Y.) placed fourth with a time of 27.70 seconds.
Raven Williams (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) brought home the gold with a time of 1:00.63 in the 400 meters.
Batu-Tiako took home first in the long jump with a distance of 18-1.75.
Showalter Johnson (So., Nassau, Bahamas, Business Management) came in second place in the 100 meter (10.90), while Tahj Ferguson (Sr., Hartford, Conn., Psychology) finished right behind him in third with 11.09 seconds.
Tafara Hondonga (Sr., Aberdeen, S.D., Business Management) secured another first place finish with a 400 meter time of 49:38.
Jonah Heckenberg (Jr., Stockport, Iowa, Business Management) placed fourth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:05.46.
Max Finley (Fr., Richville, N.Y., Secondary Education) was second in the 10,000-meter run, recording a time of 34:19.06.
Justin Moeller (Sr., Keota, Iowa, Psychology) brought in the fourth first place finish of the day, with a 56.80 second time in the 400-meter hurdles.
Keaten Griffen (Fr., Longview, Texas, Software Engineering) defended his conference pole vault championship, bringing in a first place finish with a height of 12-9.5, while Moeller recorded a height of 12-3.5 in third place.
