Statesmen Grapple at Doane Open
Crete, Neb.--A smaller crew hit the mats Saturday as the William Penn men's wrestling team competed at the Doane Open.
There were two divisions at the Open--Open and Amateur--with Cameron Mitchell (Jr., Houston, Texas, Kinesiology) topping the Statesmen as he won one match at 285 pounds in the Open division.
Steven Martinezdelacotera (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis., Sports Management) enjoyed a busy and successful day, going 6-1 and taking fourth at 285 pounds in the Amateur bracket.
133-pounder Tavian Thomas (Fr., Omaha, Neb., Business Management) and 157-pounder Nathaniel Lucero (Fr., El Paso, Texas, Industrial Technology) also had their hands raised once each Saturday.
Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Marshall, Mo. on December 15 to compete in the Missouri Valley Duals. The event will close out the pre-holiday break portion of the season for the Statesmen.
