WPU Drops Pair on First Day at NWCA National Duals

Cedar Falls--The William Penn men's wrestling team started its post-holiday schedule with a pair of tough dual meets as it competed at the NWCA National Duals Friday.

The Statesmen (3-7) opened with a 49-0 setback to #1 seed Grand View, and were then eliminated from competition by#8 seed Providence (Mont.), 44-6.

Despite not putting any points on the board against the top-ranked Vikings, three individuals did go the distance in their matchups, including 133-pounder Lane Scorpil (So., Columbus Junction, Iowa, Industrial Technology), 165-pounder Cameron Hargrove (Jr., Bolingbrook, Ill., Sports Management), and 174-pounder Branson Bottorff (Sr., Mackinaw, Ill., Industrial Technology) who all fell by decision.

WPU dug itself an early hole against the Argonauts as well and could not make up the difference.  141-pounder Sabri Sino (So., Franklin, Wis., Sports Management) finally scored for the navy and gold as he slipped past Aidan Go 14-11 in overtime.

Hargrove then defeated Bridger Hall 11-7 to finish off his team's scoring for the day.  Bottorff also once again reached the final whistle in his bout, but fell shy of the victory.

Next Up: William Penn will again be in action Saturday at the NWCA National Duals.
