
Slow Start, Turnovers Doom WPU Against #4 CMU
Oskaloosa--The William Penn women's basketball team was not able to match up with #4 Central Methodist Saturday, falling 82-54 in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
WPU (4-6, 2-3 Heart) was outshot 41.7%-35.3% by the Eagles (9-0, 5-0 Heart), but won the three-point battle 37.5%-23.5%. Unfortunately, 29 turnovers led to 38 visitor points in the loss.
CMU scored the first nine points of the night and never looked back, eventually leading 20-6 after the first quarter and 43-19 at intermission.
Down by 24 points entering the third quarter, the navy and gold found some scoring success in the second half, recording 35 points through the two periods. The hosts actually outscored the Eagles 17-15 over the final 10 minutes of play.
Aiesha Feagins (Jr., Grand Prairie, Texas, Applied Mathematics) topped the Statesmen with 13 points off the bench, while fellow non-starter Alyssa Hames (Jr., Ackley, Iowa, Psychology) also hit double digits with 10 points and six rebounds.
Ally Stewart (Sr., Victoria, Australia, Physical Education) was next with nine points, while Joslyn Herbeck (Fond du Lac, Wis., Sports Management) posted an eight-point effort.
Morgan Terry (Sr., Cornersville, Tenn., Biology) also contributed seven points with seven boards, and Journie Augmon (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Human Services) finished with six points and a team high 11 rebounds. Augmon's board tally helped the Statesmen to a 46-40 edge in rebounding.
Next Up: William Penn will remain in Oskaloosa next Wednesday to face off against Graceland in Heart action at 5:30 p.m.
