Strong Perimeter Game Cannot Lift Statesmen Over C-SC in Road Matchup

Strong Perimeter Game Cannot Lift Statesmen Over C-SC in Road Matchup

Canton, Mo.--The William Penn women's basketball team set a new season high for three-pointers, but it was not enough in an 84-58 loss to Culver-Stockton in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Wednesday.

WPU (3-17, 2-14 Heart) connected on 13 three-pointers, but unfortunately only made six two-point shots, while also committing 27 turnovers (nine for C-SC) in the setback to the Wildcats (6-12, 5-9 Heart).

The visitors gave up the game's first six points, but long balls by Ally Stewart (Sr., Victoria, Australia, Sports Management), Aiesha Feagins (Jr., Grand Prairie, Texas, Applied Mathematics), and Aysia Arrowood (Jr., Wichita, Kan., Sports Management) put the visitors on top at 9-8.

Unfortunately, it would serve as William Penn's only lead of the night as C-SC scored seven straight en route to a 23-14 edge after 10 minutes on the hardwood.  That advantage grew to double digits by halftime at 44-29 and the visitors, who were outshot 53.6%-39.6%, failed to threaten after the break.

Behind a 6-for-11 effort from Arrowood, the navy and gold finished 13-for-32 (40.6%) from behind the arc, but they could not overcome a 40-15 deficit in points off turnovers.

Both squads pulled down 31 rebounds with Culver-Stockton doing a bit better in second-chance points at 13-7.

Arrowood scored all 18 of her points from three-point land, while Feagins hit three trifectas as part of an 11-point effort.

Joslyn Herbeck (Sr., Fond du Lac, Wis., Sociology) guided the bench with seven points, while Stewart had six and Mercer Roberts (Sr., Myrtle Beach, S.C., Wellness and Recreation) added five.

Alyssa Hames (Jr., Ackley, Iowa, Psychology) led the Statesmen rebounders with seven, and Feagins assisted on four WPU buckets.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Saturday to host Benedictine in Heart play at 2 p.m.
