West Earns Third-Team All-Heart Award

Oskaloosa--Carley West (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn., Human Services) capped her inaugural Statesmen campaign with postseason recognition as the 2024-2025 all-Heart of America Athletic Conference women's basketball teams were announced Friday.

West garnered third-team honors, one of 10 individuals to be named to that squad.  An additional 10 players were selected to both the first and second teams.  Six individuals earned all-defensive team laurels as well.

West, who transferred to William Penn last year but was sidelined all season due to injury, topped the Statesmen in most statistical categories, headlined by scoring, rebounding, and field-goal percentage.

The junior averaged 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while also recording 41 assists, a team-high 34 blocks, and a team-best 50 steals.  She shot 36.9% from the floor, 68.3% from the line, and 24.2% from behind the arc.

West, who posted a season-high 33 points against Central Methodist on January 11, managed two double-doubles.  She reached double figures on 19 occasions, including in each of her last 12 contests.

Ella Larsen of Grand View was named Heart Player of the Year, while Keona Schenck of MidAmerica Nazarene was tabbed as Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Year.  Schenck's teammate Zaylee Werth collected the league's Freshman of the Year accolade.

Jon Lewis of MidAmerica Nazarene was chosen as Heart Coach of the Year by his peers, while Alexis McAfee of MNU earned the Assistant Coach of the Year honor.
