
WPU 11th at Mid-States Championship
Wichita, Kan.--The Statesmen women's bowling team finished in the middle of the pack on a difficult oil pattern as it competed at the Mid-States Championship last Saturday and Sunday.
William Penn ended up 11th out of 24 teams with 8,523 pins in six regular games and 20 Baker games. Mount Mercy led qualifying with 9,379 pins, but was upended 3-1 by #2 seed Newman (Kan.) in the championship bout of match play.
Tori Justice of Oklahoma Christian guided the 203-player field with a 203.3 pin average (1,220 pins).
Sammantha Meyers (Jr., Rockford, Ill., Elementary Education) was the lone Statesmen to bowl in all six rounds, posting a 174.2 average for the tournament, while Christy Mottier (Sr., Madison, Wis., Business Management) owned the highest average at 183.8 in five games.
Cydnee Whiteleather (Sr., Lehigh Acres, Fla., Elementary Education) topped a trio of individuals who started four games as she posted a 171.5 average. Madison Ross (Sr., Charles City, Iowa, Exercise Science) was next in that grouping at 167.5, while Caitlin Radliff (Jr., Belleville, Ill., Software Engineering) owned a 159.5 clip.
Kelcey Aczon (So., Las Vegas, Nev., Nursing), at 163.7, and Gabi Evans (Sr., West Liberty, Iowa, Psychology and Sociology), at 163.3, both started three games, while Lucy Mitchell (Fr., Poulsbo, Wash.) knocked won 142 pins in her lone game.
"It was good to see where we stack up next to our conference teams," Head Coach Kirstin Foster said. "We found some areas that we need to work on to make us stronger. We have a few weeks before our next tournament where we will once again see other league teams, so we will be working hard to improve those areas."
Next Up: WPU will take two weeks off before traveling to Moline, Ill. on November 11-12 to compete in the ISYL Leatherneck Classic.
