Statesmen Open Campaign at Midwest Collegiate Championship

Wauwatosa, Wis.--The William Penn women's bowling team had a tough go of things in its season opener as it competed at the Midwest Collegiate Championship Saturday and Sunday.

WPU finished 27th out of 42 teams with 7,096 pins in five regular games and 16 Baker games.  Mount Mercy was the top qualifying squad with 8,581 pins, while #3 seed Coe won the bracket play competition.

Savanah Rodriguez of Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) headed the individual standings with 1,123 pins (224.6 average).

Lucy Mitchell (So., Poulsbo, Wash., Psychology) was William Penn's best roller with a 180.2 average, while Sammantha Meyers (Sr., Rockford, Ill., Elementary Education) also started all five rounds and posted a 178.4 clip.

Olivia Nolte (Sr., Atkins, Iowa, Elementary Education) recorded a team-high 185.3 average over the span of four games, while Danielle Fincham (So., Surprise, Ariz., Exercise Science) (174.7) and Caitlin Radliff (Sr., Belleville, Ill., Software Engineering) (163.0) both started three times.

Victoria Potter (Sr., Yuma, Ariz., Psychology) and Hannalee Songer (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Business Management), with averages of 159.0 and 143.0, respectively, each bowled in two games.  Kelcey Aczon (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev., Nursing) also started one game and knocked down 127 pins in her lone round.

"This weekend was a big learning experience for us," Head Coach Kirstin Foster said.  "Sunday was a much more positive day, however, as we communicated and scored better.  We found some things to work on so we will perform at a higher level at our next tournament."

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Wichita, Kan. on Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20 to compete in the Mid-States Championship.
