Jackson Claims First Career Title as Statesmen Win Home Tourney

Oskaloosa--Courtney Jackson (Sr., Liberty Lake, Wash., Digital Communication) closed out the regular season with her first career title as the William Penn women's golf team defended its home turf with a victory at the William Penn Mike "Fluff" Cowan Invitational Monday and Tuesday.

WPU was first out of three teams with a two-round score of 652 (331-321) at the par-70 Edmundson Golf Course.  Central Methodist was a distant second at 695 (352-343).

Jackson paced the 20-player field with a score of 158 (76-82), holding off teammate Gabriana Franco (Fr., Tracy, Calif., Exercise Science) by three strokes for the crown.  Franco finished in the silver position at 161 (85-76).

Jaclyn Wojciechowski (Sr., Graytown, Ohio, Business Management) took home third place at 165 (80-85), while Olivia Lange (So., Buckeburg, Germany, Business Management) helped the navy and gold take the top four spots as she tied for fourth at 168 (90-78).

Carlee Frayne (Jr., Garner, Iowa, Sport Management) wrapped up the varsity scoring in a tie for eighth at 176 (90-86).

WPU's reserve crew was on the links as well and placed third at 710 (365-345).  Katlyn Killeen (Sr., Overland Park, Kan., Business Management) led that grouping in a tie for seventh at 175 (89-86).

"I want to thank all of our seniors--Ena Baker, Madison Blake, Courtney Jackson, Katlyn Killeen, Ryan Stone, and Jaclyn Wojciechowski," Head Coach Elise Warne said.  "This week, we were able to celebrate these wonderful women.  It was a special moment for them as they played their final holes in front of their friends and family.  These young ladies have left a legacy on and off the course that will be remembered for years to come.  I could not be more proud of how they have grown over the last four years."

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Moravia on May 1-2 to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship.  Play will be contested at The Preserve Golf Course.
