WPU Falls 3-0 to Mount Mercy

Cedar Rapids--The William Penn women's soccer team was held scoreless Tuesday as it fell 3-0 to Mount Mercy in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.

Despite the loss, the Statesmen (3-11-1, 3-7-1 Heart) actually held a 16-6 edge in shots against the Mustangs (4-8-1, 3-7 Heart), including a 6-4 margin in shots on goal.

The game started off slow with both teams trying to feel each other out, but in the 23rd minute the home team found the net, breaking the deadlock. Moments later, Mount Mercy tallied another score, taking a 2-0 lead into the half.

The navy and gold were the aggressors after intermission, taking a healthy number of shots (10 total), but failed to put one home. Conversely, the Mustangs produced only two attempts, but got one in the netting, adding an insurance goal in the 78th minute.

Kaitlin Falaney (Sr., Ottawa, Ill. Sports Management) was active offensively with a team-high seven shots, while a plethora of other Statesmen added tries of their own.

Next Up: William Penn will travel to Fayette, Mo. Saturday for its regular season finale, taking on Central Methodist in Heart action at 3:30 p.m.
