Pair of Brandt Goals Leads Statesmen to Post 2-2 Draw with Graceland

Lamoni--The Statesmen women's soccer team claimed a 2-2 draw in a tight match against Graceland in Heart of the America Athletic Conference play Wednesday.

William Penn (3-4-6, 1-3-3 Heart) held a slight offensive edge to Graceland (4-7-3, 1-5-1 Heart), outshooting the hosts 15-14.

Unfortunately, GU came out strong with one goal early in the first half.

Off a corner kick from Luca Szucs (Sr., Gyor, Hungary, Exercise Science), Emma Brandt (So., Cologne, Germany, Sports Management) headed the ball past the goalkeeper to tie the match at the 62:39 mark.

Just two minutes later, however, the Yellowjackets took back the lead with a goal of their own.

Brandt had the last say, though, tying the match once again with a penalty kick goal in the 72nd minute.

Brandt led the shot tally with five attempts, while Szucs followed with three strikes, and Sian Bah (Jr., London, England, Political Science) added two shots.

Madeline Danielson (Sr., La Crescent, Minn., Biology) tallied nine saves to keep the match tied.

"We snuck out of Graceland with a result," said Head Coach Kaleb Preston. "We were lucky to get a point because we didn't show up to play until the second half. We need to find the fire and passion from kickoff if we are going to get into the Heart Tournament."
