Statesmen Unable to Upset No. 7 Central Methodist Despite Early Lead

Fayette, Mo.—The William Penn women's soccer team fell 5-1 to #7 Central Methodist in Heart of the America Athletic Conference play Saturday.

William Penn (3-6-6, 1-5-3 Heart) struggled to match Central Methodist's (13-1-1, 8-1 Heart) offensive effort, falling short with a 26-3 deficit in shots.

Despite only recording two shots in the first half, the Statesmen scored  the day's first goal at the 10:01 mark as Luca Szucs (Sr., Gyor, Hungary, Exercise Science) sent a free kick to the opposite post and Emma Brandt (So., Cologne, Germany, Sports Management) headed the ball past the goalkeeper.

The visitors continued to lead going into halftime, but unfortunately, CMU took over in the second period.  The Eagles evened the score with a penalty kick just 2:23 into the half, followed by a second goal five minutes later. The Eagles extended their lead with two additional goals at the 63:43 and 66:14 marks. They then capped off their performance with a final goal from a penalty kick in the 78th minute.

Madeline Danielson (Sr., La Cresent, Minn, Biology) was busy all day, tallying eight saves.
