Statesmen Upended by Culver-Stockton in Final Away Game

Canton, Mo.— William Penn women's soccer team succumbed in a 4-0 loss to Culver-Stockton in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday.

William Penn (3-7-6, 1-6-3 Heart) was outpaced by Culver-Stockton (9-6-1, 3-6 Heart), struggling with a 15-10 shot shortage.

The Statesmen struggled to make scoring opportunities in the first half with only two shots, while the hosts tallied their first goal with a flick into the net at the 9:40 mark. C-SC then doubled its lead off a corner kick in the 15th minute.

The Wildcats unfortunately found the net for the third time at the 41:01 mark and entered the break up 3-0.

Trying to get on the scoreboard, the visitors recorded seven shots in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net.

Culver-Stockton eventually capped the match's scoring with a free-kick goal in the 84th minute.

Lilly Cote (Jr., Sioux City, Iowa, Psychology) led WPU with three shots, while Emma Brandt (So., Cologne, Germany, Sports Management) added two attempts. Several other Statesmen got involved in the action as well with seven different players recording at least one tally.

Madeline Danielson (Sr., La Crescent, Minn., Biology) managed five saves in the loss.

Next Up: William Penn closes out its season Saturday by hosting Heart foe Benedictine at Drost Field in Oskaloosa at 11 a.m. as the Statesmen celebrate Homecoming.
