WPU Suffers 2-0 Setback at Northwestern

Oskaloosa--The William Penn women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest to Northwestern in a non-conference road matchup Wednesday.

The Statesmen (1-1-1) were narrowly outshot, 14-13, with the Raiders (1-1-0) placing eight on frame to WPU's six.

Despite generating 10 scoring chances, William Penn couldn't break through in the opening half. Northwestern capitalized late, converting off a free kick in the final 29 seconds to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Raiders doubled their advantage just five minutes into the second half, and while the Statesmen continued to create opportunities, they were unable to rally.

Lilly Cote (Sr., Sioux City, Iowa, Psychology) led the WPU attack with five shots, while Elycia Cooley (Sr., Galveston, Texas, Biology), India Foger (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Psychology), and Madison Soratos (So., Murrieta, Calif., Psychology) each added two attempts.

"We lost the game tonight from mental lapses. We actually played quite well," Head Coach Kaleb Preston said. "We need to develop more specifically in attack and create good chances. We will grow and learn from this and be back at it Saturday."
