Strong Defensive Effort Highlights 2-0 Loss to No. 6 Missouri Valley

Oskaloosa--The William Penn women's soccer team couldn't secure a win Saturday but showed defensive prowess, limiting No. 6 Missouri Valley to just two goals in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.

The Statesmen (2-9-1, 1-7 Heart) were outshot 10-5, including a 4-1 disadvantage in shots on target. Still, the Navy and Gold kept the Vikings scoreless until the 32nd minute, when Missouri Valley finally broke through.

William Penn generated all five of its shot attempts in the first half but was unable to find the back of the net.

The Vikings extended their lead midway through the second half with a goal in the 63rd minute to close out the scoring.

Anna Museler (Jr., Dresden, Germany, Engineering) led the offensive effort with two shots.

"We had a good showing despite the final scoreline. Two-nil against the No. 6 team in the nation, where they had to score two really incredible goals, shows that we are making positive strides," said Head Coach Kaleb Preston. "I'm proud we made the match competitive today and am eager for Wednesday."
