William Penn Falls to Mount Mercy in Road Match

Cedar Rapids--The William Penn women's soccer team was unable to hold back the Mount Mercy attack, falling 3-0 in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday night.

The Statesmen (2-10-1, 1-8 Heart) led the shot count 7-6 but were outpaced in shots on goal, as the Mustangs (8-5-2, 6-4-1) held a 3-1 advantage.

Mount Mercy opened scoring at the 38:59 mark, then quickly capitalized on the momentum with another goal just 29 seconds later. The Statesmen held the Mustangs scoreless through much of the second half until an 81st-minute penalty kick extended the deficit to 3-0.

Despite adding six shots in the final 45 minutes, William Penn was unable to find the back of the net.

Sian Bah (Sr., London, England, Political Science) led the offensive effort with two shots.
