Davenport--The William Penn women's track and field continued its indoor campaign Saturday, starting up the calendar year at the St. Ambrose Battle in the Hive.
De'Avae Adderley (Jr., Nassau, Bahamas, Engineering Technology) guided the navy and gold with a pair of top-three efforts. The junior was second in the 200-meter dash in 26.78 seconds and third in the 60-meter dash in 8.12 seconds.
Ellasa Horton (So., Waterloo, Iowa, Human Services) was next for WPU in the 60, taking sixth at 8.35.
Like Adderley, Ellysse Johns (Fr., Houston, Texas, Psychology), Briana Admire (So., Galesburg, Ill., Biology), and Miracle Crawford-George (Jr., Canyon Springs, Calif., Kinesiology) also placed in the top 10 in two events. Admire was second in the 800-meter run (2:42.84) and sixth in the one-mile run (6:12.64), while Johns was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.42 and 10th in the 200 in 28.49.
Crawford-George headlined the WPU throwers, finishing third in the weight throw (42-9) and fifth in the shot put (33-3.75).
"With this being our first meet after the break, we are in a good spot heading into the rest of the indoor season," Head Coach Victoria Vinokur said. "We were able to see our women understanding and making corrections we have been working on at practice. They are going to continue to grow throughout the year and it will be fun to watch."
Next Up: William Penn travels to Lincoln, Neb. next Friday and Saturday to compete in the Nebraska Graduate Classic.
