
William Penn Swept on Road by #14 Park
Parkville, Mo.--The Statesmen women's volleyball team opened its weekend on the road with a 3-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference setback to #14 Park.
WPU (11-8, 1-2 Heart), which lost by scores of 16-25, 23-25, 18-25, was outhit .177-.091.
The visitors kept pace with the Pirates (12-3, 2-0 Heart) early on at 9-9, but unfortunately permitted seven unanswered points as they dropped the first set.
William Penn fell behind by a few points in the second round, but countered to pull ahead 13-12. PU responded and eventually went up 23-19, but the navy and gold battled back once more with five of the next six points. It was not to be, however, as Park claimed the set and grabbed a 2-0 edge in the matchup.
The Pirates unfortunately rolled through the third set from start to finish to complete the sweep.
Alyvia Johnson (Sr., Owatonna, Minn., Business Management) was a one-woman wrecking crew with 16 kills on a .209 attack clip. The senior just missed a double-double as she recorded nine digs as well.
Unfortunately, no other Statesmen managed more than four kills.
Lydia Huston (Jr., Kansas City, Mo., Biology) finished with 22 assists and 10 digs for a double-double, while Kaya Caprini (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn., Psychology) notched a squad-best 18 digs.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Atchison, Kan. Saturday to face Benedictine in Heart play at 11 a.m.
